Amazing movie!!! 2001: A Space Odyssey came out around the same time the original Star Trek was wrapping up and well before UFO, Space: 1999 or even Star Wars.
It's amazing how pretty accurate Kubrick's vision of the future was, though sadly, we're still many, mnay years off from the kind of space travel envisioned here, which is really pathetic when you think about it.
The new Battlestar Galactica is pretty close to what space travel will be like when we finally get serious about it...but as long as millionaires are getting rich down here, they have no reason to invest up there!
I don't really remember the sequel, suffice to say it was already wrong since the Soviet Union broke up years ago and we're not even at 2010 yet. All I remember about it is that Roy Scheider, who recently died, was in it.

Yep, 2011 was messed up though that movie just didnt do it for me, a sequel wasn't the best idea.
